The Great Schism Essay Example
The Great Schism Essay Example The Great Schism Essay The Great Schism Essay One of them was the Great Schism. The Schism started in 1378 due to an argument within the churchwarden 45) and it was resolved in redundant 45). The Great Schism was a split between the Avignon popes and the Vatican popes, and this conflict led to questions in papal authority and hostilities between the two factions, one supporting the Avignon popes and one supporting the Vatican popes. The Great Schism was a split In the Church between the two factions of the Avignon popes and the Italian popes. Many events lead up to the schism. One of which was the fact that there was fighting going on in Italy when Clement V was selected as the new pope, so Instead of going to the Vatican they established a facility to house the pope In Avignon. During this time, all the popes who lived In Avignon were all Frenchmen. This lead to many historians believing that these popes were simply tools of the French court. But In reality their politics were fairly Independent. This duration of time was deemed the Babylonian captivity by a poet called Patriarch (Del]astral 363). This split or schism started when Gregory moved the papacy back to Rome. After that he passed away. Shortly after, the people of Rome got scared that the papacy would eventually move back to Avignon so they insisted on an Italian pope as opposed to a French one. After succumbing to the demands of the masses they decided that urban VI would be the next pope. Urban VI was a very harsh leader and had many absurd policies. This lead to the loss the support from the officials within the church. Then the cardinals stated that his election was declared null and void. After that a man by the name of Clement the VII was chosen to be pope. After Urban refused to step down Clement moved to Avignon. Then after much conflict, including the attempt of forcing the other two popes to step down, and making a new one did not work. At one point within the history of this even there were 3 popes. But none of the new popes could get a strong enough foundation in order to become the official pope. Eventually the Council of Constance, during 1417 got the old pope to resign and deposed of the other two. Then they had elected a final pope by the name of Martin V who managed to get enough support in order to become the undisputed pope of Europe Road 45). Thus marking the end of the Great Schism. After the event known as the Great Schism, a doctrine by the name of The Doctrine of Conciliators was created by the Council of Constance, the same council that ended the great schism. On this last Issue, the Council of Constance proclaimed the doctrine of consulars- the Idea that a general council representing the whole church was the supreme religious authority o which even popes had to submitArden 45). This quote reveals that they felt the need to limit the popes power simply because before this Incident whatever the pope decided always would happen. But now, If they feel the need to act upon a decision of a pope whether It Is poor or If they feel that It Is Just not the best decision for the Catholic Church, they can override It with their power, and Institute their own reform within the church. Another quote by a different text, stated that there was not only negative effects of this split In the church. In spite of the chaos the schism had some positive effects. The existence of two popes made it clear that drastic reforms were name. Intellectuals Degas to tank tout retort. Preachers Decade Involved unleashing tremendous religious enthusiasm. Some were accused of heresy when their preaching was combined with a cry for social revolution. In several places reforms were instituted. (Disaster 1366) When the schism ended, it left the two factions in a hostile state. Naples and France, and later Argon, Castle, Portugal,

Motivation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Motivation - Essay Example Secondly, human resources exist as a yet another representation of the interests and needs of the employer. Within this function, a human resource department necessarily seeks to minimize costs associated with the workforce, comply by relevant laws, maximize efficiency, and reduce losses. Accordingly, the study of human resources almost invariably centers upon these two core functions. In keeping with this particular dynamic which is been described, this brief study will focus a level of analysis upon the means by which human resources within a firm/entity/organization can and should seek to maximize the motivational factor that it engages with its stakeholders. Within this particular dynamic, it can readily be understood that seeking to maximize motivation necessarily increases efficiency, utility, profitability, and a host of other factors that would be viewed positively by the firm/entity in question. Moreover, the changing business dynamic in the current world, inclusive of risin g competition, hiring freezes, procurement policies, and a host of other factors, means that a higher level of pressure is now exhibited upon human resource departments around the globe to maximize the level of motivation of the few employees that they can continue to employ as a means of continuing to stay relevant within the current model. Ultimately, this can be reduced to a firm or entity seeking to do more with less. Within such a dynamic, this particular analysis will measure some of the most pertinent motivational theories that exist and seek not only to define them but to explain how they can be utilized within human resources as a means of affecting a greater level of motivation. The theories that will be discussed are as follows: Maslowââ¬â¢s hierarchy of needs, Hertzbergââ¬â¢s motivation hygiene theory, McClellanââ¬â¢s theory of needs, Vroomââ¬â¢s expectancy theory, and Kolbââ¬â¢s learning styles theory. As such, by analyzing each of these theories and rela ting it to the practice of motivation in human resources, it is the intent of this author to underline and highlight the means by which a greater level of motivation can be affected within the current leadership that exist within each and every firm/entity/organization. By seeking to define and understanding the clear and dinstict linkage that exists between leadership and motivation, and vice versa, it is the hope of this author that the reader can come to a more clear and actionable interpretation of how leadership and motivation can work in something of a symbiotic relationship to maximize utility and efficiency within the given firm/organization/or work place. Maslowââ¬â¢s Hierarchy of Needs Although Maslowââ¬â¢s hierarchy of needs has oftentimes been considered on a purely personal psychological level, the reality of the situation is that humans are by very nature social beings. By extension, the workplace is necessarily a realm within which individuals need to interact w ith one another as well as clients as a means of generating profit and income; both for themselves and for the entity in question. In such a way, Maslowââ¬â¢s hierarchy of needs is perfectly suited to defining and describing the means by which a given firm/organization can seek to maximize the overall level of motivation that is exhibited within its employees. Rather than viewing this as something of an undynamic approach, it must be understood,

Home Health Care - Research Paper Example History: Home health care has emerged in two different forms i.e., post-acute care and social-supportive care (Kadushin & Egan, 6). Home health care was legally institutionalized in the United States post formulation of funded services such as Medicare and Medicaid legislation in 1965 with the former supporting post-acute skilled care to homebound individuals and the latter catering to preventive, skilled and unskilled care to chronically ill individuals. Prior to this, home care was not an entity of the government, but managed either by relatives or by private nurses. According to Keenan and Fanale (1989) the first home care program was started by Boston University in 1885 (qtd. in Kadushin & Egan, 6).
